MANILA – Two more senators – Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan – are under investigation over their use of funds and may face plunder and graft charges like their three colleagues who have been detained by police – Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Ramon "Bong" Revilla and Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada – if evidence would warrant the filing of the charges.
Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima ordered the investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation of Senators Marcos and Honasan and also Senators Enrile, Revilla and Estrada and others in connection with alleged huge allocations under the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) which has been ruled as unconstitutional and illegal by the Supreme Court.
Earlier reports indicated that the senators, three of them already charged with plunder and graft and are now detained, allegedly poured DAP funds into fake non-government organizations (NGOs) identified with businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind.l
De Lima actually did not identify the five senators but statements from whistleblowers  Benhur Luy, and Merlina Sunas indicated that the senators being referred were the five senators who were reportedly allocated P425 in DAP funds.
“We’re investigating that already. The NBI is investigating those . . . the alleged use of DAP funds through Napoles NGOs, as claimed by Benhur Luy,” de Lima said.
“All that I am saying is that the DAP is being investigated by the NBI… [on the alleged involvement of the] five senators,” she said.
De Lima said the NBI team, which also investigated the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam, has already gathered basic documents related to the alleged DAP anomaly, including Special Allotment Release Orders (SARO) from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
She added that the probe team is headed by Justice Undersecretary Jose Justiniano.
She said the investigation was prompted by a report that some P475 million of DAP funds was allotted to some senators and was disbursed through the NGOs connected to Napoles.
Napoles is the alleged "brains" behind the P10-billion pork barrel and the P900-million Malampaya Fund scams.
Lawyer Raji Mendoza, legal counsel of whistle-blower Benhur Luy, earlier said that his client submitted an affidavit to provide details of the transactions made by Napoles pertaining to the DAP funds.

In 1990, hundreds of Filipinos, former guerrillas and soldiers who fought under American command during World War II, began arriving in San Francisco. Some of the elderly men began hanging out on Powell Street, near the famous Cable Car stop.
Most of them came from poor families in the Philippines. Many didn’t have family or friends in the Bay Area.
“The Guerrillas of Powell Street” play is about the struggles of these veterans in San Francisco, a story of sacrifice for country and family set in one of the most famous streets California. It is also about a sad chapter in the history of California, where more than a million and half Filipinos live and where Filipinos have long played an important role.
The elderly men who had fought under the U.S. command after the Philippines, then an American colony, was invaded by Japan. They were promised citizenship with full military benefits for their service. But the U.S. government later withdrew that pledge. Only in 1990, when the law granting them citizenship was passed, did the Filipinos to regain part of what they lost.
My friend, actor Joji Isla portrays Major, one of the important characters in the story.  Joji has acted in Philippine television for many years and donned has different characters in the political satire Sic O’clock News, and was Congressman Tengco’s aide-de-camp in the hit sitcom Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata.
Joji’s Stage credits in the Philippines include Kenkoy Loves Rosing, Pilipinas Circa 1907, Sa Bunganga ng Pating, Bongbong at Kris II, Aguinaldo, Scapino, Rizal: Mga Huling Araw, and Walang Sugat.

Love is a Decision

Published in Editorial & Other Articles
Q:    “I admit that I had been unfaithful to my wife but I never abandoned my family. My wife always suspected that I have affairs but never caught me. Naturally we fight fearlessly. Our pastor tried to intervene so we can to put our lives back together again, but I am not sure if I really want to stay with her. She claims that she loves me but she does not respect me.  Even in front of our children and even our Pastor she would nag, scream and become fuming mad at me. I swear if there were no other people with us she would have smacked me or have eaten me alive and I would have been a battered husband. I know that I have been in error but how could I love and trust her?
A:  Love is a decision. You have to decide to love your wife no matter what. Trust follows after love. When love overtakes you, trust becomes inevitable. Both are results of mutual devotion to God and to one another. If you draw near to God, you will be infused by His love then it will be effortless to love especially your spouse. Try to spend more time with God first and learn to dwell in His presence.  Once you do, it will be easy to love your wife.
Please remember that love is never a one-sided affair. It takes two to love. You cannot just receive it. You have to give it to feel its real essence. It is unconditionally given to the other person - no buts, no ifs. The Bible says, husbands, love your wives as your own bodies (Ephesians 5:25).
Honestly, if you still care for the welfare of your family and you want it to remain intact, the change should start with you. You must make the first step of humbling yourself:  admit your faults to your wife ask her forgiveness and make it up with her. This way you do not only honor your covenant, you also honor God. The book of Malachi reads in chapter 2:14, “You ask why He no longer accepts the offerings you bring Him.  It is because He knows you have broken your promise to your wife you married when you were young. She was your partner and you have broken your promise to her, although you promised before God that you would be faithful to her”.
If you want her to respect you, you have to show an example and mind you, respect is always earned. Give her the respect by staying true to your vows to her and making her secure in your love. Once she feels that you love her, she will respond by loving you back. Remember love begets love - you reap what you sow.
You must be questioning why does it seem that we are picking on you when you were asking for advice for yourself? Our answer is: please take time to ponder if God is dealing with you instead.  God loves you and your family so much and He has a great plan for you.  Being the head of your family, you are the spiritual head who will guide your family to truth and righteousness. You will see that the moment you make a decision to stand up to your role as a husband and father as God designed you to be, you will be amazed how the whole situation will turn around for good.
Therefore, we advise you to come to terms with God first. Spend time with Him. Talk to Him.  Listen to His voice. He is your Father.  He will guide you through His Spirit. He will teach you what to do. Read His word, the Bible and He will speak to you. God bless you!
