Philippine population hits 100 million

KALIBO, Aklan -- Don't look now but the Philippine population will be officially 100 million next week.
The Commission on Population (Popcom) said it was expecting that the population reach 100 million on July 27.
The POPCOM-Western Visayas said it was anticipating that the 100th million Filipino to be born in the said date may be coming from either of the six provinces under the Western Visayas region and Iloilo City.
Popcom will award seven starter kits worth P5,000 each if a baby will be born at least around 12:06 of July 27. The said government agency has prepared at least one kit each for the six provinces and the city of Iloilo.
Among the criteria provided are: a child should be born in a government accredited hospital facility; born through normal or spontaneous delivery; parents must be a resident of the provinces in the region; and the health facility must observe Philippine Standard Time certified by the attending doctors.
Submission of name of child born on or nearest said time and date will be accommodated at the POPCOM regional office in Iloilo until August 4.
